We’ve reached the middle of the year and winter It’s time to migrate to somewhere warmer for the June holidays. We have a few locations where you can escape the cold.

The winter weather in Umhlanga usually ranges in the balmy 20s. Even if there’s a slight chill, don’t let it deter you from catching a few lazy days on the beach, chilling in the sun.

What’s hot about this destination? We would recommend you wake up early enough to watch the breath snatching sunrise on Umhlanga beach.

If you’re in need of some Vitamin Sea then Ballito is the place to go. If you can brave the cold, by all means learn how to surf on Salmon Bay or spend your days strolling on Clarke Bay beach with the water gently lapping at your toes.

What’s hot about this destination? The restaurants in the area will turn any foodie’s heart to butter. Thompsons Bay Beach also offers a safe swimming opportunity.

Limpopo is only a few hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria and riddled with stunning game lodges and reserves due to its relative proximity to the Kruger National Park. The weather is always a touch sunnier on Limpopo’s side, making it a lovely winter holiday destination.

We can tell you that there exists no unattractive location in Mpumalanga. However, Sabie is just something extra special with its gorgeous green landscape and enchanting waterfalls. The gorgeous hiking trails and fresh air will warm not only your body but your soul.

Some winter takeaway travel tips

Make sure you pack properly for a winter trip. Sweaters, boots and slippers!

Just because it is winter, doesn’t mean you can leave the sunscreen at home. Apply some every morning.

Keep some lip balm and moisturising cream close, you’ll thank yourself for it.

If you’re staying at a lodge with a fireplace, make sure the smoke detector is in working order and that the fireplace is well maintained before lighting it.

Wear your warmest and heaviest clothing items when travelling to your holiday destination and back. This way, your parka or coat and boots won’t take up too much space in your suitcase.
